The world cup of cricket is played every four years in which the world’s top cricket teams participate and it is organized by the ICC. In every World Cup, many new records are made and old records are broken. The process of these records has been going on since 1975 and will continue even further.

ICC Cricket World Cup Records

The Australia cricket team has won the World Cup title 5 times out of the 12 World Cups held so far and this is the record for most World Cup wins by a team. Australia won these titles in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015 World Cups.
India and West Indies hold the record for most World Cup wins after Australia. Both these teams have become world champions twice in the history of Cricket World Cup. West Indies won the World Cup in 1975 and 1979 and India in 1983 and 2011.

  • Sachin Tendulkar has scored a total of 2278 runs in all the World Cups he has played, which is the record for most runs scored by a player in the World Cup.

  • Ireland holds the record for the highest number of runs successfully chased by a team in the World Cup. Ireland achieved this record in the 2011 World Cup when they successfully chased down England’s target of 329 runs.

  • Mohammed Shami is the second bowler from India to take a hat-trick in the World Cup. Shami took this hat-trick

  • In the 1975, 1979 and 1983 World Cups, all the matches were of 60-60 overs. All these three World Cups were held in England.
  • For the first time in 1987, the World Cup was organized outside England in India and Pakistan.
  • The 1992 World Cup was the first World Cup in which day-night matches were held and matches were played with the white ball instead of the red ball.
  • For the first time in the 1992 World Cup, teams played in colored clothes instead of white clothes.
